Biography

Algernon Blackwood (1869–1951) was an English author and broadcaster, one of the most prolific and influential writers of supernatural fiction. Born in Shooters Hill, Kent, he had an adventurous youth in Canada and New York before settling in England. His stories and novels explore humanity’s relationship with nature and the supernatural, emphasizing awe and wonder rather than mere horror. "The Willows" and "The Wendigo" are considered among the finest supernatural stories ever written. His John Silence stories created one of fiction’s first psychic detectives. H.P. Lovecraft called him the greatest living practitioner of the weird tale.
