Anna Katharine Green
Biography
Anna Katharine Green (1846–1935) was an American novelist considered the “mother of the detective novel” in America. Her debut, The Leavenworth Case (1878), was one of the first detective novels written by a woman and became a bestseller that was praised by Wilkie Collins himself. Green created several recurring detective characters and established many conventions of the genre, including the “nosy spinster” detective type that Agatha Christie later perfected with Miss Marple. She published over 40 books during her career.
