Christopher Morley (1890–1957) was an American journalist, novelist, essayist, and poet known for his witty, bookish novels and his passionate advocacy for reading. Born in Haverford, Pennsylvania, he was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford before becoming a prolific literary figure in New York. His most beloved novels—Parnassus on Wheels (1917) and The Haunted Bookshop (1919)—are charming celebrations of books and bookselling. Morley was a founding editor of the Saturday Review of Literature and a member of the editorial board for the Book-of-the-Month Club. He was also a key figure in reviving interest in the works of Walt Whitman.
