Biography
Dorothy Leigh Sayers (1893–1957) was an English crime writer, essayist, translator, and playwright. One of the first women to earn a degree from Oxford, she created Lord Peter Wimsey — an aristocratic amateur detective who is one of the most beloved characters in mystery fiction. Sayers was a founding member of the Detection Club and a champion of the fair-play mystery. Beyond crime fiction, she was acclaimed for her translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy, her theological essays, and her radio plays for the BBC. She is considered one of the greatest Golden Age mystery writers.
