Ford Madox Ford (1873–1939) was an English novelist, poet, critic, and editor born Ford Hermann Hueffer. He is best known for The Good Soldier (1915), considered one of the finest novels in English, and the Parade’s End tetralogy about World War I. Ford was also a pivotal literary figure as editor of The English Review and The Transatlantic Review, where he championed writers including Joseph Conrad, James Joyce, Ezra Pound, and Ernest Hemingway. He collaborated with Conrad on two novels and was central to the development of literary impressionism — the technique of rendering subjective experience through fragmented, non-linear narrative.
