Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849–1924) was a British-American novelist and playwright, one of the most beloved children’s authors in the English language. Born in Manchester, she emigrated to Tennessee as a teenager and became one of the most commercially successful writers of her era. Her three most famous novels—Little Lord Fauntleroy (1886), A Little Princess (1905), and The Secret Garden (1911)—have never been out of print.
