Frances Noyes Hart (1890–1943) was an American novelist and short story writer who achieved tremendous success with The Bellamy Trial (1927), one of the first courtroom thrillers in American fiction. Hart was a prolific contributor to The Saturday Evening Post and other popular magazines. The Bellamy Trial, her most famous work, is structured entirely as a courtroom drama—a format that was highly original at the time and influenced the subsequent development of legal thrillers. Hart was considered one of the finest mystery writers of her era, though she has been largely forgotten since.
