Fritz Leiber

Biography

Fritz Leiber (1910–1992) was an American writer of fantasy, horror, and science fiction, one of the most versatile and acclaimed speculative fiction authors of the 20th century. Born in Chicago to Shakespearean actors, he acted briefly before turning to writing. He created the sword-and-sorcery duo Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, coined the term "sword and sorcery," and wrote pioneering works across multiple genres. His novel The Big Time (1958) won the Hugo Award. He won six Hugo Awards, four Nebula Awards, and three World Fantasy Awards over his career. Leiber’s work is characterized by literary sophistication, dark humor, and psychological complexity.
