Biography
Fyodor Sologub (1863–1927), pen name of Fyodor Teternikov, was a Russian Symbolist novelist and poet, one of the leading figures of the Silver Age of Russian literature. A schoolteacher for most of his life, Sologub channeled his pessimistic worldview into darkly beautiful prose and verse. His masterpiece The Little Demon (1907) is one of the most disturbing and brilliant novels in Russian literature, a portrait of provincial evil that blends realism with grotesque symbolism. His later novel The Created Legend explored utopian and mystical themes.
