J. Storer Clouston

Biography

J. Storer Clouston (1870–1944) was a Scottish novelist and historian from Orkney, known for his humorous and adventure novels. Born Joseph Storer Clouston in Cumberland, he was educated at Oxford and settled in Orkney, where he became an authority on local history. His novel The Spy in Black (1917) was adapted into a celebrated 1939 film by Michael Powell. He wrote over twenty novels combining humor, mystery, and adventure. Though largely forgotten today, his best work—particularly The Spy in Black and Simon—is witty, well-plotted, and entertaining.
