Biography

John Dewey (1859–1952) was an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer, one of the most influential thinkers of the twentieth century. Born in Burlington, Vermont, Dewey taught at the University of Chicago and Columbia University, where he developed his pragmatist philosophy and progressive educational theory. His ideas about learning through experience, democratic education, and the relationship between thought and action transformed American schooling and influenced educational practice worldwide.
