Khalil Gibran

Biography

Khalil Gibran (1883–1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer whose work bridges Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. Born in Bsharri, Lebanon, he emigrated to Boston as a child and later studied art in Paris before settling in New York. His most famous work, The Prophet (1923), a collection of prose poems on love, freedom, work, and death, has sold over 100 million copies and been translated into more than 100 languages, making it one of the best-selling books in history. Gibran’s lyrical, aphoristic style and his synthesis of Christian, Islamic, and Romantic philosophical themes gave his work universal appeal.
