S. Fowler Wright

Biography

Sydney Fowler Wright (1874–1965) was an English novelist, poet, and translator best known for his science fiction and detective novels. After working as an accountant, Wright turned to writing full-time, producing a remarkable range of fiction. His science fiction works—particularly The World Below (1929) and the Doktor Doktor trilogy Deluge (1927) and Dawn (1929)—were acclaimed for their imaginative power and philosophical depth. Wright also translated Dante’s Inferno and produced numerous detective novels under his own name and pseudonyms. He was a vocal advocate for imaginative fiction and a critic of literary realism.
