Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919) was the 26th President of the United States and a prolific author of histories, memoirs, and natural history. Beyond his political career—which included trust-busting, conservation, and the building of the Panama Canal—Roosevelt wrote over forty books. His Autobiography is one of the great American political memoirs, The Rough Riders recounts his famous charge up San Juan Hill, and Through the Brazilian Wilderness describes his harrowing scientific expedition down an unmapped Amazon tributary.
