William Faulkner

Biography

William Faulkner (1897–1962) was an American novelist who won the 1949 Nobel Prize in Literature, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. Born in New Albany, Mississippi, Faulkner created the fictional Yoknapatawpha County as the setting for most of his novels, exploring the American South’s complex history of race, class, and moral reckoning. His experimental narrative techniques—stream of consciousness, multiple perspectives, fractured chronology—revolutionized the novel form. The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, Light in August, and Absalom, Absalom! are considered among the finest novels in the English language.
