Carlo Collodi (1826–1890), born Carlo Lorenzini, was an Italian author and journalist best known for creating Pinocchio, one of the most famous characters in world literature. Born in Florence, Collodi worked as a journalist and government official before turning to children's literature. The Adventures of Pinocchio was originally serialized in an Italian children's newspaper from 1881 to 1883. The story of a wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy became an international sensation and has been translated into over 300 languages, making it one of the most translated books in history.
