Biography
Gaston Leroux (1868–1927) was a French journalist and novelist best known as the author of The Phantom of the Opera and the Roultétabille mystery series. Born in Paris, he worked as a court reporter and foreign correspondent before turning to fiction. The Phantom of the Opera (1910) and The Mystery of the Yellow Room (1907) are his masterworks. The Phantom became one of the most adapted stories in history through the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. The Mystery of the Yellow Room is considered one of the finest locked-room mysteries ever written. Leroux’s work combines Gothic atmosphere with detective fiction ingenuity.
